South Stoney Announcement

Calgary Minor Basketball Association (CMBA) is proud to announce the creation of its 11th community zone the "South Stoney Basketball Association", a milestone that reflects the continued growth of basketball across Calgary and the organization’s commitment to expanding access to the sport for young athletes and families. Spans the city limits in the area South of Stoney trail and will be a full member of CMBA starting in the Fall of 2026.

The addition of the new zone strengthens CMBA’s city-wide development model, ensuring that more communities have the opportunity to participate in organized basketball while maintaining the organization’s mission of accessible, community-driven sport focused on long term athlete development.

“This is an exciting step forward for basketball in Calgary,” said CMBA Executive Director Ken King. “Our zone model has allowed communities across the city to build identity, volunteer leadership, and opportunities for kids to play the game. Adding an 11th zone reflects the demand for basketball and the passion we’re seeing from families and community leaders, as well as the continued demand for our commitment to athletic development and access”

The zone spans the following areas of the city:

  • West Boundary will be the City Limits.
  • North Boundary will be Stoney Trail (22x).
  • East Boundary will be the City Limits.
  • South Boundary will be the City Limits.

CMBA is excited to have such strong leadership supporting the zone in it's inaugural season as Todd Mohorich (President-Bow River Zone) lives in the new zone and will be transitioning into the President's role of South Stoney immediately alongside some of other senior basketball leaders in the community.

South Stoney Basketball Association Bobcats will compete in the upcoming CMBA 2026-2027 Fall Season in all age groups U11-U18 (+ internal U9).

A Message From The New President:

"We are incredibly excited to launch the South Stoney Basketball Association.

This program is about more than just basketball—it’s about creating  more opportunities for youth in Calgary’s southeast communities to stay active, build confidence, develop teamwork, and form lasting friendships.

It will bring families and friends together through sport, we’re helping strengthen our community and giving young athletes a positive place to grow both on and off the court.

GO BOBCATS!!!"
